Impact Control Membrane (ICM)
Our Impact Control Membrane is the only patented system, able to pass the Dynamic Loading Test for ‘hard object impact’ with reference to UNI EN 12825:2003 norm.
All Manufacturers of 20mm Porcelain recommend additional protection if the paving is to be installed over voids in excess or 100mm.
Although porcelain is extremely strong in term of load bearing, like all ceramics it is prone to damage by impact.
The general consensus being that voids much in excess of 100mm carry a greater risk of injury should a paving unit fail. A trip or fall through broken paving could result in a serious injury.
We would therefore, in line with the Manufacturers recommendation, strongly advise the specification of an Impact Control Membrane (ICM).
The ICM is designed to hold the broken pieces together, and prevent the broken sections collapsing fully into the void. Reducing the risk of fall through jagged shards of porcelain.
Please Note:
The ICM membrane is not designed to allow the continued use (walking on/over) of the broken tile, the area should be cordoned off immediately and steps taken to replace the broken unit.
